Where do we go from here?
I don’t think I have ever written anything like this, to be completely honest with you. However, I will do my best. Few people will read this, but I at least want my thoughts known. The events that occurred these past weeks in Buffalo, Irvine, & Uvalde are horrific. This type of behavior is unacceptable. America, land of the brave and home, but for who? I am speechless by the lack of reform over the years and knowing that I have to always be on guard as a black man. But children, children?! We must do better. I have a fourth-grade little brother, and I know I would not be able to stomach an atrocity of this magnitude if this happened to him. I am not a parent, but I am human, and I want to state, THIS IS WRONG.
As a follower of Christ, I have many emotions about these events. I believe that if we profess to love our neighbors, then we should protect them better. We must provide safety for the future leaders of America, more protection for our teachers, and better training for our law enforcement. However, even if we do all of those, we must also do one last thing, care! Too often we hear about someone dying because of someone’s negligence. I do not write this blog out of anger but deep concern for others. I was taught to love others as I love myself, and that is becoming a lost art. I know I cannot save the entire world today, but I hope to make a difference in some form. I pray for better days and better actions.
Like I said in the beginning, I know many people may not read this, but I do want my thoughts known because I do not want my little brother growing up as I did and asking himself the question, am I next? America, we must do better for the sake of our future and the well-being of human life. So, this begs the question. What will we do?
