“Lunch is on me today.” Words that changed my entire day and made me reflect on who is really in control.
Yesterday my fiancé and I went to eat lunch together, which was Waffle House, I might add, which is God’s gift of all-day breakfast food. As we drove in the car, we conversed about our future that would begin in just a few short months. However, we did not know what was in store for us. When we arrived, we sat in a small booth in front of this middle-aged gentleman with whom we had no connection. But within a few short moments, he changed our day by dropping a twenty-dollar bill on our table and walking away.
Let me retrace my steps for just a second. As I was getting dressed, I looked for shirts to wear, and I came across my expect Jesus T-shirt and thought it would be a good day to wear it. I had no idea I’d meet Him, well, at least the Jesus that dwells within that man. The moment he did that, I sat speechless, which never happens if you know me. It took about thirty seconds to take it all in. I asked myself, “Why did he choose us? Why did he know to pay for someone else? How long did he think about this?” Honestly, none of those questions matter because he was faithful enough to do it. The crazy reality of it all is that it was the Saturday before Easter! The day before Jesus came out of the tomb, his man decided to do the most Jesus-like thing, and I am thankful for it.
Often, I find myself in a cycle of cynicism, and I question why so much happens to me. As you all know by now, this year has been quite a ride for me, but God has been extremely patient with my moments of unbelief. I have found my cycle of thoughts trending negatively, but then He steps in and reminds me who is really in control. Whenever moments like the one I described earlier happen, I laugh and say, “You got me!” Even a person like myself who strives to be positive for others needs a reminder that there are good people out there! So, please do one thing on this Easter Sunday, expect Jesus.
