What the pandemic has taught me

If I have learned anything since March 13, 2020, it’s this: life will never return to normal. As a person who works with college-aged individuals regularly, I often hear the phrase, “When will life be normal again?” Usually, I look at my students and say, there is no normal. From now on, there will only be a new normal. I know they don’t want to hear that, but it’s honestly something I have to tell myself regularly. Since the pandemic began, I felt my so-called productivity take a huge hit. I am not the same person I was almost two years ago. I don’t work, exercise, let alone think like I used to! Everything had to change, and I had to create new ideas from my bleak circumstances. And that is when it began to click.

When I reflect on December 2020, I think back to having this crazy idea to create a podcast and post episodes daily. I had so many thoughts and I knew I could share them with others, but I never knew it would grow to this magnitude from guest episodes, blog posts, and now, merchandise! I don’t say all of this to brag. However, I say all of this because I live as if it were my last every day. There will literally never be another day like today. No day is repeated on the calendar, and there will never be another 2022. But why is this important?

January 4, 2021, ironically my mother’s birthday, is the day it all changed. I know it may be repetitive, but so is this pandemic. Every day feels the same. My goal, however, is to break the cycle. I can’t get this day back once it’s gone, so I may as well live it to the fullest. No matter how old you are, there is a deep desire to accomplish something! I hope to motivate, inform, and inspire the generations to come. Times will never be the same; however, I still want to accomplish my goals. How about you?
