We meet again, dear friends! It’s been quite a while since I have written a blog post. Honestly, I’ve missed it. I’ve missed the Saturday morning writings followed by intense gym sessions later in the afternoon, but that all has changed. Instead of writing this at my desk at home, I am in my new norm, a coffee shop full of noise and chaos.
In the past month, I’ve been through a lot. I started my fundraising campaign at work, a new semester of seminary, helped my girlfriend move (again, haha), experienced a student’s death, read multiple books, preached over 10 to 3 different affinity groups, and hit a deadlift personal record. Life is not the same anymore. I don’t work like I used to, rest like I used to, nor dream like I used to. I have experienced amazing success. This past month and wrestled with grief that I carry with me forever. However, through it all, I know why I am doing what I am doing.
Life does not stop, and neither do we. I told a student the other day that goes fast, but you can make it slow down, and instantly I ate my own words. I’ve been moving at warp speed without much time to slow down. I think that writing is my reminder to pause, slow down, and refocus. It’s not like sermon writing where I have to motivate a congregation or essay writing where I engage with the text I had to rush through to get my point across. But this is is the subtle reminder that I am more than my work. The reminder that I am not Superman is challenging but also comforting. Superman is never interrupted because he’s too big, fast, and resilient to be brought to his knees. I, however, have a great reminder of the limitations and weaknesses that God has given me because I was not designed to do EVERYTHING. I hope these words come across as encouragement and admonishment that life will change, but don’t let it change you. Instead of allowing the world to make you speed up, you tell the world to slow down!
