This past week I had the opportunity to go out of town to Lake Junaluska, North Carolina. While up there, I visited my girlfriend, spent some time with old friends, and had a fantastic experience. Lake J has a special place in my heart; it is one of the places where I began to discern my calling into ministry years ago. The scenery there is breathtaking, and I feel like time flies there. However, even with all those great things, I know I am not called to live in North Carolina. I personally believe that we are called to be in certain places during seasons because we are on this journey called life.

This year I am going into my second year of being the Associate Director at the USM Wesley Foundation, which is odd for me. Since my freshman year of college, this is the first time I haven’t moved or changed jobs. I feel called to be at the Wesley because I am serving in a specific role in this particular season. Sometimes we can get caught up in what others are doing with their life because it “looks” better. However, what if we are not called to do what they are doing? For instance, my best friend is an engineer and lives in Pittsburgh. If I were to get jealous of his life, I would be wasting my time. His calling is entirely different from mine. He makes bridges and I make disciples. Thankfully I have the wisdom to understand my path is different from his and vice versa.

I find it funny that when I talk to friends about their faith, they often think they need to be like me. I, however, think they are doing just fine because they are right where they need to be on their journey. Some would argue against that, but I stand firm in that. I don’t know where you are in your life, but I know this for certain: you’re right wh ere you need to be. Now keep running the race!
