A Night to Remember

Usually, when I write these posts, I reflect on the week in its entirety, but today is different. Last night I had the opportunity to go to a concert by my favorite artist, Aha Gazelle. I just wanted to be a regular attendee, but I believe God had other plans. At the start of the week, my friend Trey and I only had general admission tickets. However, by the end week, we both had our own branded t-shirts, back-stage access, with the possibility of an interview as well. Most people may not think of this as divine, but I do.

Aha is a rapper I have been following for years, so seeing him live was good enough for me. However, Trey had different plans. Friday was a whole day of preparation. Mentally I gathered questions to ask, and Trey got this camera equipment ready. We met up at my apartment, and the experience only got better from there. As we drove, the excitement drove us! When we arrived at the venue, it felt like a scene out of a movie. We talked to the ticket holder, and our names were on the list. We ran inside like giddy teenagers because we knew what was next; showtime!

We watched the opening act, which did a phenomenal job, but all I could think about was Aha’s performance. We had a little downtime between artists, so we decided to step out for some fresh air. Little did we know that some of Aha’s crew was outside waiting for him to arrive. Then it hit me. I was going to meet my favorite rapper! In Spring 2018, Aha Gazelle performed in my hometown of Clinton, so this was my second time to see him live. However, this time was different. I could meet him and have a quick conversation with him.

After our time, we went back inside, which was perfect timing. Aha was live on stage. The moment was surreal. I got to see him live again, but this time the atmosphere was different. It was electric! The energy he carried was incredible. Every song he performed was better than the one prior. I could tell this was a carefully crafted setlist and did not disappoint! I was in awe by the end of his performance. But there was no time for that because it was my time to shine now. Trey had been filming the entire night, but we met up to have my interview with Aha.

The moment was here. It was time to interview Aha Gazelle. I had about three questions in my head that I was ready to rattle off, but I didn’t use them. Instead, I had a conversation with him like he was one of my friends. We talked about anime and music, and he took a photo with me—mission complete. Afterward, we went back inside to hear another artist, Dear Silas, perform. He was amazing as well, but all I could do was reflect on my time with Aha. I couldn’t believe it! On the ride home, Trey looked at me and asked the million-dollar question. “How does it feel that you had the opportunity to talk to your favorite artist?” Honestly, I don’t know how to feel except grateful. What I learned from this experience was you never know what’s going to happen.

Also, the part that I neglected to admit is that I almost told myself no. No to the concert, the interview, and the whole experience. I am grateful I decided to go, and I am also thankful for friends that will help me pursue my dreams!
